Reducing Anxiety During COVID-19

Hi YB babes,

We are all living through a tough and confusing time right now. Between adjusting to life at home, digesting the news and our new normal, it is only natural that we have spikes in anxiety or dips in productivity.  It’s the perfect time to prioritize self-care to keep ourselves in a positive headspace – a simple quiet moment with coffee in the morning or a thought out skincare routine before bed can all help keep anxiety at bay. Keep reading for some ideas to help reduce the anxiety you may be experiencing while at home. We’re all in this together!

  • Limit news + social media

The CDC recommends taking a break from reading or watching the news as it can be upsetting. With social media culture, it’s difficult to not be surrounded by the news at all times. Limit watching the news to once a day or only a few times a week, and mute accounts on social media that consistently post updates. You can also take this time to “clean up” your social media, unfollowing or muting accounts that upset you and following ones who spread positivity and light!

  • Establish a routine

Creating a routine can be helpful in making your day feel, and actually be, more productive. It creates a sense of normalcy and helps you stay on track with your tasks for the day! For example, getting up, making the bed, and putting on a pot of coffee while you do your morning skincare starts the day on a good note. Founder and CEO Pauline Youngblood reads positive affirmations each morning for a mindful moment to set the tone for the day.

  • Check in with friends and family daily

Take time to Facetime, text or zoom call with your friends and family who are near and far! Loneliness can present itself in situations like this, and the CDC recommends speaking to your loved ones can help everyone feel less isolated.

  • Nature + Exercise

Taking care of your body can also help reduce feelings of stress or anxiety. Regular exercise, stretching, meditation and healthy eating are all great ways to practice self-care. If it’s possible where you live, go for a social distancing walk and use the time outside to take in deep breaths and unwind!
