Go Ahead, Blush

Once upon a time, there was no blush. Oh, the horror! In
fact, "rouge," the French word for "blush," is thought to have originated in or
around ancient Egypt
where inventive women also wore everything from foundation to eyeliner to
lipstick. These trendsetters applied blush to cheekbones as well as the mouth
to create a ruby finish. Some men even got into the act, especially in 18th
century France.
In fact, until the 18th century, most western cultures
didn't condone the use of blush because a rosy complexion meant you spent time
outside. That was bad. During the 1700s, many men, women and even children
began "blushing" to look more healthy and vibrant. Unfortunately, they often
used ingredients that contained lead or mercury.
Throughout the years, cheek color has taken on many
different forms, with just about anything that would stain the skin. The Greeks
tried mulberries; others used strawberries and even beet juice. Some women in
the 19th century cooked up a blend of vinegar, nutmeg, honey, isinglass (a
gelatin made from the air bladders of freshwater fish) and red sandalwood.
Imagine that!
Most blushes today are,
thankfully, easy-to-use and good-for-skin formulas like Youngblood's Crushed Mineral Blush and Pressed Mineral Blush. Both
offer a touch of color that can be applied to cheeks,
temples, eyes or lips to create a healthy-looking, natural flush. There are
shades for all skin tones.
Whichever you choose, we say, go ahead, blush! You'll look
fabulous.

Youngblood News
Meet Ben Schrock,
Warehouse Manager

Husband and wife, and Youngblood employees, Ben and Jade
Schrock.
Running a warehouse requires organization, energy and
patience -- qualities Ben possesses and relies on every day. Ben (whose wife,
Jade, is a Youngblood employee as well) and his team tirelessly work to pack,
ship and deliver products in a timely fashion. No wonder he was named Manager
of the Year for 2009!
How long
have you been with Youngblood?
Three
years.
Tell us
about your prior experience.
I have 15
years of warehousing experience. Prior to Youngblood, I was a Sr. Logistics
Manager in the electronics industry for 10 years.
Which
area(s) of your job do find most rewarding?
Hearing
how the changes and improvements that I've initiated have positively impacted
our customers -- from wholesale all the way through distribution. For example,
the warehouse used to individually wrap products for shipping. While it was an
attractive presentation, it wasn't the most efficient approach. I introduced
prepacks, which are less wasteful and more organized. Also, we're shipping
testers in plastic trays that once were used for compacts. We've successfully
increased productivity and made things easier for the end user.
Name your
biggest challenge.
Production
scheduling.
Got any
favorite Youngblood products?
The
products shipping out the door! I do favor Lipgloss
in Reflection. This was released when I first started
at Youngblood. It always seems so "pure" when I look at a vial.
What do
you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Scheduling!
Seriously though, I enjoy making and producing music. I also love digital
manipulation with tools such as Photoshop, Maya and ZBrush.

Heart Matters
Dear Youngblood Pro:
We heart the heart. It's the organ that keeps us alive. It
makes us strong and can render us weak; it leaps with joy and breaks in sorrow
-- it is the very symbol of both life and love. This month, we get to celebrate
the heart both physically and romantically.
Every year since 1963, the President and the American Heart
Association have designated February as American Heart Month. Nationwide,
thousands of volunteers work to raise funds for research and education, and to
communicate information about heart disease and stroke. This is so important
because we all have loved ones, perhaps aging parents or a spouse susceptible
to heart attack, and heart disease is the number one killer of Americans each
year.
This is also why it's important to live from the heart, for
the heart. We can all eat better and we can all be nicer to one another. We can
all love each other a little more. After all, do you know anyone who doesn't
want to be loved? We all talk about it. Writers write about it, artists paint
about it, singers sing about it. All you
need is love; love is all you need.
Of course, it doesn't hurt
if you also have some beautiful Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics to help in that
love. Colors that are perfect for the other reason February is associated with
the heart: Valentine's Day. It's our time to show off our love with flowers and
candy, and a fabulous red dress. And to look pretty in pinks like
Promiscuous Lipgloss and Vivid Lipstick,
and certainly in Rouge Crushed Mineral Blush.
These colors and so many other Youngblood shades say that you're ready for
romance.
Why do certain colors like red and pink speak directly to
the heart? Red can make the heart beat faster. It is the color of passion,
strength, love, romance and more. Pink is all about tranquility, symbolizing
femininity and joy, as well as love and romance. Perhaps that's why classic red
and pink are both making a comeback this Spring, because one makes the heart
beat faster while the other calms it down. A truer metaphor for the heart, and
all it represents, would be hard to find.
The heart is with us constantly. Its passion and romance,
its love and life, should be celebrated, always.
So happy heart month, however you choose to commemorate it!
Sincerely,

Henri Bendel Welcomes Youngblood to Its

 The temperature outside may have
been a chilly 40º F, but the first floor of the famed Henri Bendel flagship

celebrated its debut in the beauty department.
 On January 20, 2010, Youngblood --
Bendel's first and only all-mineral cosmetic brand -- unveiled its extensive

A
sneak peek at what's coming this Spring from Youngblood
This Spring, Youngblood will further bridge the gap between
skin care and color with a little something that delivers barely-there
coverage, lightweight hydration and environmental protection. Hint: This
radiant tint, in four shades, will include our signature mineral blend of
Rhodolite, Zincite, Hematite and Malachite as well as Seve Marine, Kiwi Extract
and more.
All eyes will also be on the individual, as in long-wearing,
creamy-textured eyeshadows.
And put your lips together for a limited edition
pout-plumper that can be worn alone or atop your favorite lip color.
Plus, our new Kabuki Brushes are a stroke of genius! Made of
luxurious goat hair, these professional grade brushes create an airbrushed
finish every time. And now, the short, solid, easy-to-grip handles are made of
wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, a not-for-profit organization
promoting the protection of the world's forests. Youngblood is the first beauty
brand to include their label on our brushes.
The new Spring tint and colors will be sprung March 2, 2010 and the Kabuki Brushes in April, so stay tuned!

Tickled Pink
By Youngblood's Philip Luque
Pink
makeup can be pretty and grown-up;
sweet and sophisticated. Here are some easy tips to making this ultra-feminine color look its
best on eyes, cheeks and lips.
Pink shadow helps "wake" up eyes. Pressed Individual Eyeshadow
in Flush keeps it simple with a matte
finish, while the sheen of Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow
in Tourmaline brightens along brow bones. To
add a little edge, line lashes with a dark pencil (Eye Liner Pencil
in Chestnut or Black).
This also helps prevent the pink shadow from highlighting any redness around
the eyes.
Since almost
everyone has a little rosiness in their skin, pink blush is more
natural-looking than earth tones. Bluish pinks, like Crushed Mineral Blush
in Tulip, look best on darker skin or pale skin
with a rosy undertone. Peachy-pink blushes are ideal for olive skin. Try Crushed Mineral Blush in Sherbert for just-pinched perfection. Pressed Mineral Blush
in Blossom, a lively candy pink, also flatters
most skin tones. Don't be intimidated by the color in the compact! It goes on
sheer and diffused.
Pink lips add
freshness to any look. Choose from bright, statement-making hot pinks or sheer
shades that give lips just a kiss of color. Fair skin tones can start with
peony-colored lipstick (Lipstick
in Rosewater) or go bold with fuchsia (Vivid, which is also striking on dark skin). Pinkish
brown shades, like Cedar, look good on most.
For the most wearability, consider your natural lip color and go one shade
brighter or darker. Or try gloss (think Lipgloss
in Devotion or Lip Shine
in Parfait) for a little color and shine.
