Tips for Highlighting Your Holiday Season!

The Holidays can be a great time to step-up your look and make your skin glow.  Youngblood has just the right products to give you that "something extra" for your next Holiday outing with "Highlight the Holiday Season."

Hilight the Holiday Season Image

Pressed Individual Eyeshadow in Platinum - Give your eyes glamour this season with Platinum, our new Pressed Individual Eyeshadow. For a Smokey-silvery dramatic look, apply Platinum all over the lid and add a little of our Crushed Eyeshadow, Raven, in the crease. For a more subdued look, apply Platinum to the lash line with an Angle Brush and in the corners to brighten the eye area.

Lip Gloss in Reflection - Our Lip Gloss will add a touch of glam to your Holiday look. Whether worn alone or over your favorite Youngblood Lipstick, Reflection will give your lips sparkle.  To make lips appear fuller, add a small amount of Reflection to the center of your lips.  Never use the sponge tip on top of a lip gloss. Over time doing this will change the lip color in the vial.  Instead, use Youngblood's Lip Brushes for a professional look.

Crushed Mineral Shadow
Lunar Dust in Twilight will complete your Holiday look by giving your face and body an all-over luminous appearance.  To give the illusion of higher cheek bones, use your Contour Blush Brush and gently dust Twilight (tapping off excess before applying) over the upper cheek tones of your blush.  Continue by adding a touch above and under the brows.  Mix with your favorite body moisturizer for an all over body shimmer.

Interview with Celebrity Makeup Artist Valerie Pasaret Hernandez

Lilianna NEW pic

For the past five years I've been lucky enough to know and be friends with this amazingly talented artist. Valerie is an accomplished and creative makeup professional with experience in all aspects
of the beauty industry including print, photography, film, editorial and bridal.

Val pic
She's been the personal makeup artist for Kelly LeBrock and has worked on music videos for the Pussycat Dolls, Black-Eyed Peas, and the Backstreet Boys.

She currently lives in Los Angeles, California, with her beloved dogs, "Vinny", a Chihuahua, and "Lola", a Chihuahua-mix.

When did you know that you wanted to become a professional makeup artist? I remember as a child going through my mother's purse and putting on her lipstick.  As an adult, I became a cosmetologist and started styling hair but was aware that I didn't want to do that exclusively.  I've been a hair stylist for eleven years and a professional makeup artist for six.

Tip - Combining Loose

How long have you worked with Youngblood? I have a genuine passion for working with cosmetics and stay current on all the latest trends but I've worked exclusively with Youngblood for the last five years. My makeup kit looks like a store where you'll find the entire Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics line.

Loose Mineral Foundation
What is your "must have" Youngblood product? My "must have" product is the Loose Mineral Foundation. My favorite "trick of the trade" is to combine the Loose Mineral Foundation with the Loose Rice Powder. I love customizing minerals for my clients.

Mineral RadianceDo you have a signature technique?  I have many. But one of my favorites is to apply Coffee Loose Mineral Foundation, as a matte bronzer, and then apply Sundance Mineral Radiance on top of it. Then I apply Sherbet Loose Mineral Blush on the apples of the cheeks and right above the eyebrows.  During the summer months I use a dash of Lunar Dust in Dusk. It's great on 90% of all skin tones.

Do you have some tips for our clients? The #1 tip for clients is "Less is More!" Especially when working with Youngblood Minerals. The formulas are very concentrated and a little goes a long way.

Pressed Individual EyeshadowsWhat is your favorite look for Fall? My favorite look for Fall is to create a Smokey eye with the new Sapphire and Bordeaux Pressed Individual Eyeshadows.

Name some of the best experiences you've had as a makeup artist? I've been fortunate enough to work with some of the most talented actors in the business with whom I share a passion for working with the best Mineral makeup in the industry. Celebrities such as Tara Manning, Ryan Cabrera, Kelly LeBrock, and the Backstreet Boys, to name a few. I find working with men to sometimes be a challenge because they hate to wear "makeup".  Of course it's always great to work with celebrities who already have Youngblood in their makeup bags.

Tip - For eyes

What's the most common mistake women make when applying makeup?  Many women are too heavy handed when it comes to application. Packing it on is old school. The times have changed and so has makeup. When working with Youngblood Minerals you can achieve a flawless finish with much less product. Plus, it's much healthier for your skin.

What's your favorite part about working with Youngblood Minerals? It's so easy! I love that men can wear it and it doesn't feel like they have makeup on. I love that it's simple and user friendly. And the packaging is sleek, clean, and luxurious.

Tip - Marrakech Lip Gloss

What is your ultimate goal as a makeup artist? To train as many people as I can to be their most beautiful.

We're so lucky to be able to learn from one of the very best in Hollywood and I thank Valerie for her time and knowledge. I hope you've learned as much as I have!

Cathy Asks:

Any tips on how to keep Lip Liner and/or Lipstick from feathering into the fine lines around the mouth?

Dear Cathy,

Try using Youngblood's Mineral Rice Setting Powder around the lip area first. Then, line your lips with your Liner, slightly filling them in. Next, take your Lip Brush and blend the liner into the lips and follow with a light coat of Lipstick.  Remember, the heavier the application, the more likely the lipstick is to feather.

Louria Asks:

I see you suggest using the
Pressed Rice Powder with the Liquid Foundation. Why? I've already purchased the Loose Rice Powder and am using it with my Liquid Foundation.  I also understand that the loose powder will last longer before I have to purchase again.

Dear Louria,

I do suggest the Pressed Rice Powder with the Liquid Foundation. If you prefer loose, it works as well for setting purposes. Just remember, that when setting your Liquid Foundation, set the T-zone with a light press and roll motion.  I also recommend using Loose Rice Powder for setting and carrying Pressed Rice Powder in your bag for touch-ups.  Rice powder is also good for toning down color should you get a bit heavy handed with the blush, bronzer or brows.
