Youngblood at San Francisco Beauty Industry Trade Show

Booth

Youngblood's Sales and Marketing team just returned from the Face and Body Spa Expo at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. There they exhibited and met with other beauty professionals from throughout the United States and abroad to discuss current trends and developments in the industry.

The San Francisco show, always exciting and fun, was made even more so with makeup artists Valerie Hernandez and Philip Luque in attendance to provide makeovers starring Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics.  Val and Philip's makeup chairs were booked solid for each day of the two-day event focusing on health, beauty and aging.

Youngblood's next show is the Spa and Resort trade show in Los Angeles, California, slated for late February 2009.  We'll keep you posted.

Believe it or not, Fall is upon us and Summer is but a fading memory. The days are getting shorter, the evenings are growing cooler, and the leaves are beginning to change color. Here at Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, we're very excited about the response we've received from the launch of two exciting new products to our line of luxe quality cosmetics. Specifically, our Pressed Individual Eye Shadow, in sixteen brilliant shades, is fast becoming a best seller and our Poetic Lip Gloss, in a warm plum and rose shade with frost appeal, has become an instant classic.

In this month's Radiance celebrity makeup artist, Liliana Pennington, outlines the advantages and benefits of incorporating Youngblood's Mineral Rice Powders into your makeup routine with her column aptly titled "Why Mineral Rice Powder?"

We're also continuing with what's quickly become one of our most popular features, "Ask The Artist!" where you email us your questions about beauty and have them answered by one of our celebrity makeup artists.  If you have any questions, send them to karen@ybskin.com -- we can't wait to hear from you!

I hope you enjoy this issue of Radiance.  As always, feel free to forward it to your clients and friends.

Sincerely,

Why Mineral Rice Powder?

Liliana

Often, when I'm training new accounts for Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, I hear how some clients aren't aware of the advantages of using Youngblood's Mineral Rice Powders. Youngblood has two formulas in their line - in both loose and pressed forms. Regardless of whether you choose the Loose or Pressed Mineral Rice Powders, you'll derive many benefits from their use. Youngblood Mineral Rice Powders are great multi-taskers acting as:
  • A Primer
  • A Setting Powder
  • An Oil Absorber
  • A Pore Minimizer
  • A Color TonerPressed Rice Mineral Powder
As a Primer - First, let's talk about using Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder as a Primer to extend the wear of your foundation. I suggest using the Loose Mineral Rice Powder under the Loose Mineral Foundation and the Pressed Mineral Rice Powder under the Liquid Mineral Foundation.  When you're in a spa environment, and your clients want to have the Youngblood Minerals applied right after a facial, Mineral Rice Powder is key to achieving a smooth, even application. The Mineral Rice Powder acts as a barrier to the products used during a facial so the skin won't have a "tacky" finish. This technique can also be taught to the client who doesn't have sufficient time to allow their moisturizer to properly soak into their skin. So, Mineral Rice Powder really acts as two types of primer.  One that ensures longer wear from your foundation and one that reduces blotchiness that may result from poor moisturizer absorption.

Tip 2
As a Setting Powder - The second way to use the Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder is as a setting powder. Properly setting your foundation allows your makeup to wear longer, controls shine and gives a satin finish. It also locks your makeup in place.  An example of the last benefit is demonstrated when using Youngblood Mineral Foundations, or the Ultimate Concealer, as a camouflage. In this instance, you'll want to set both in place with the Mineral Rice Powder. You can play around with all of the Youngblood Brushes and Tools to find exactly which is the right fit for the finish you want to achieve.

Loose foundationAs an Oil Absorber - When working on a client with extremely oily skin, Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder is a must. The best way to achieve maximum oil absorption is to apply the Rice Powder with a Youngblood Flocked Sponge prior to blending the Loose Mineral Foundation. Then set the makeup with Loose Mineral Rice Powder using the Youngblood Super Powder Brush or the Large Kabuki Brush.

Tip 1
As a Pore Minimizer - When I hear clients tell me that they have concerns about large pores, I automatically reach for the Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder. The Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder is the only product I have worked with that consistently shows amazing results in minimizing the look of pores. Apply rice powder prior to your foundation and use the Loose Mineral Rice Powder with the Loose Foundation and the Pressed Mineral Rice Powder with the Liquid Foundation to achieve a smooth, flawless finish.

Liquid foundationAs a Color Toner - The last benefit that I'd like to share with you is Color Toning. Many people gain some color during the summer and lose a shade or two during the winter. That usually means that you may need to bump up or down the Color Tone on your foundation. Often, one or two shades up or down is not always the right undertone for everyone. By best utilizing the three Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder shades, you can eliminate this challenge. I like using the "Light" Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder for the winter months, the "Medium" Mineral Rice Powder for the in-between seasons, and if you pick up a lot of color during the summer, mix your Mineral Foundation with some of the "Dark" Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder.

ultimate concealerThe Youngblood Team also uses this Color Toning technique for clients with darker skin tones. Because darker skin may have the tendency to be oily (which will change foundation color), you may want to counteract this by using the Rice Powder first and blend it with the Mineral Foundation. Then set the foundation in the same manner as per the oil absorbing application. The best color is the "Dark" Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder because of its' golden undertone.  It really helps the foundation to avoid appearing "ashy". You can use any of the larger Youngblood Brushes to apply this technique.

Bonus
Upon reading the benefits of using Mineral Rice Powder, it's easy to see why it's a "must have" in your makeup kit. Suggest this to every client and all your friends. They'll thank you a million times. And remember: For every Youngblood Liquid or Loose Mineral Foundation you simply MUST include Youngblood Mineral Rice Powder in your purchase.

Jane Asks:

I would like to know, what's the preferred method for washing my mineral Foundation Brush?  The brush has a build-up of oils on it and I feel that it's impeding the application of my loose foundation.

Dear Jane,

You can either use a gentle hair shampoo or liquid soap to clean your brushes.  Gently wet the brush with the hairs pointed down at an angle into the sink taking care not to get water in the area of the brush where the hair meets the wood.  Then take the shampoo or soap in your hand (or on the counter) and gently rub with the grain of the brush until is begins to lather then rinse with the brush hairs pointed down.  With a natural hair brush, dry flat overnight before using again.  To make sure your brushes retain their shape, always wash with the grain of the brush and not against. As a rule, you should wash your brushes at least once a week.
