Faces of Youngblood - Heather Savoy

Most likely when calling Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics to speak with our CEO, Peter Andrew Soli, you'll be first directed to his stellar Executive Assistant, Heather Savoy.

Before joining Youngblood in early 2008, Heather was an Executive Assistant to the President of a major mortgage company for nearly five years. "In my capacity as Assistant to Peter, I'm responsible for staying on top of all of his appointments, interfacing with other departments and managers, and generally keeping him organized. Since this is the first position I've had in the cosmetics industry, I find it a valuable learning experience. Rarely a day goes by when I don't learn something new", says Heather.

A perfectionist, Heather finds her job at Youngblood both interesting and challenging. Both are positive attributes in her opinion. "What I like best about my job is that my duties change from day to day. There's never an opportunity to become bored so I'm constantly kept on my toes", she goes on to say.

Heather lives with her fiancée, Jacob, and two cats in Simi Valley. Jacob is a Producer in the entertainment industry.

Philip

Makeup artist and licensed cosmetologist Philip Luque has been making women beautiful since 1994. His artistry has graced the faces of Debra Messing, Jenny McCarthy, Danica Patrick, Amanda Bynes, Paris Hilton and has been featured in the pages of W and Italian Vogue. He has worked on numerous fashion shows such as Armani, Valentino, Proenza Schouler, BeBe, Diesel, Oscar de la Renta, and many others.

Now working with Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, he continues bringing his vision of clean, beautiful makeup to women of all ages.

Sadie Butterworth of Canoga Park, CA asks:

"I'm embarrassed by my enlarged pores. I've tried mineral cosmetics before, having been told by a friend that minerals would look less caked-on than conventional cosmetics--but the minerals I've tried seem to make the problem look even worse. What am I doing wrong?"

Dear Mrs. Butterworth,

As a fellow member of the large pore club, I understand your anguish. Luckily for you, Youngblood has the answer... Mineral Rice Powder! This is a must have product simply because it helps minimize the pores, keeping your foundation looking great for hours. It also controls oil, binds moisture, and helps soften overly done makeup. Simply use the rice powder first as a primer on top of freshly moisturized skin, then gently buff your loose mineral foundation into the skin gradually building your coverage. Afterwards, go after those pesky little pores with the rice powder and the flocked sponge again and say good-bye to embarrassment and hello to confidence!

With summer in full swing, you'll be enjoying more outdoor activities, and having fun in those flirty summer fashions. Exposure to UVA and UVB rays are leading causes of premature skin aging, so throughout all the fabulous hot weather fun, it's important to remember to protect your skin. In this month's Radiance, celebrity makeup artist Liliana Pennington shows a number of ways to get that summery sun-kissed glow, protect your skin, and stay cool---all at once, by using Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics.

We're also starting a new feature this month, called "Ask The Artist," in which you can email us your questions about beauty, and have them answered by one of our celebrity makeup artists. Send your questions to karen@ybskin.com --we can't wait to hear from you!

Want to know how to beat the heat, and still have that summer glow? All of us want to have the perfect summer tan, but we also want to protect our skin and stay as cool as possible. Wearing bronzers by Youngblood is a great way to sport a gorgeous tan, and you'll also be protected by natural Titanium Dioxide (a natural sun block). Youngblood provides several product options to give you that perfect, sun-kissed summer radiance.

Mineral Radiance

Mineral RadianceOne such option is Youngblood Mineral Radiance. Available in 3 versions (Sundance, Sunshine, and Splendor), Mineral Radiance is made from pure crushed minerals that deliver a healthy, natural-looking color, and contains no talc, fragrance, or chemical dyes.

Sundance (a multi-color wheel of soft, peachy corals) and Sunshine Mineral Radiance are both excellent for their bronzing characteristics, and can boost your skin tones. The third Mineral Radiance shade, Splendor, is excellent for use as blush, contour, or even as an eye shadow, but is too rosy to use as a bronzer.

When using Sundance or Sunshine as all-over bronzers, choose a full, dense brush to give a light coverage and a soft natural glow. You can use Youngblood's Super Powder Brush, Large Kabuki Brush, or the Luxurious Powder Brush. Simply swirl your brush all over the color wheel, then sweep across your cheeks, forehead, chin, and décolleté.

Sundance

You can also think of Sundance as a "contouring kit," with individual shades to define the face. For this, use smaller brushes, such as Youngblood's Contour Blush Brush, the Small Kabuki Brush, or the Luxurious Blush Brush--all these brushes will be able to pick up the individual color, making placement and application easier and more precise.
Sundance Tip

Contouring With Sundance

Choose a brush, and apply some of the darkest color, starting softly under the natural cheekbone and towards the ears swiping the color to the center of the face lightly. I like to build the depth of contour with every swipe into the darker shade in the Mineral Radiance. I then use the second darkest shade as a soft natural blush tone right on top of the apples of the cheeks and then sweep towards the ears. I like to finish the contour of the cheeks with the lightest shade. Apply this color right above the placement of the shade used as the blush (as if you were drawing backward C's around the outer part of your eyes). Use a different brush for each shade, so that the colors don't blend together.

Sunshine

The next Mineral Radiance that I want to talk about is "Sunshine," a warm golden bronze shade that works well with most skin shades. My favorite brush to apply this great bronzer is Youngblood's Super Powder Brush, but you can also use the larger brushes I mentioned above-the Large Kabuki Brush, or the Luxurious Powder Brush. If you want an all-over darker tone, use any of these brushes and dust lightly all over the entire face. You should start lightly, and slowly add until your desired tone is achieved. Your skin will glow, without even having to step out in the sun!

Contouring with Sunshine

Sunshine can also be used as a natural-looking way to define the shape of your face. Start by applying underneath your cheekbones (like we talked about above, with Sundance), then apply under the jaw line and on the temples and forehead.

Lunar Dust

Two of Youngblood's Lunar Dust shades (Dusk and Sunset) can be used as sunless bronzers. These hot shimmer colors turn heads whenever applied.

JLoPreviously in Radiance, we discussed how Jennifer Lopez's signature look, the "J-Lo Glow," was created by her personal makeup artist. He was very familiar with the Youngblood product line, and wanted to show J-Lo how wonderful Youngblood Minerals are. By combining
Youngblood Lunar Dust in Dusk with Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation, this artist created J-Lo's famous signature look.

You can achieve this same glow by blending Lunar Dust in Dusk with your shade of Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation. Keep in mind that the more
Lunar Dust you use, the more glow you will achieve, so start light and build as desired. Apply with the Youngblood Ultimate Foundation Brush, and be prepared for all the attention you'll receive!

Get Creative!

The variety of natural shades of Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation gives you a number of creative options to get the perfect summer tan.

Mineral foundationTo boost your skin's color, my favorite shade is Coffee because it complements so many different skin shades. Just blend a hint of Coffee with your own shade of Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation. The more Coffee you add, the darker the tone will become, so start lightly and then add more if desired. If Coffee is not the right shade, try some of the other darker shades, which you can view here.

Another way to use any of these darker shades as bronzers is to dust lightly all over the face with Youngblood's Super Powder Brush after you've applied your own shade of foundation.

Rice PowderYou can also blend these darker shades of Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation with your regular shade of foundation, then mix the two into your favorite body lotion, and apply all over your body. Set with Youngblood's Mineral Rice Setting Powder to make it long lasting.
