May is the month of Mothers Day, and our mothers
often have concern about how their skin is maturing. This month, our gift to
all the mothers in our lives is to help them minimize their "happy lines."
A GIFT TO MY MOTHER By Liliana Pennington
As a makeup artist, I meet a lot of women that are
new to the idea of a Mineral Foundation.
They think that since the foundation is a powder, it may dry out their skin, and show more of the lines and wrinkles.
But nothing could be further from the truth!
Pauline Youngblood formulated her Natural Mineral Foundation in
a medical setting, for clients with skin traumatized by harsh medical
procedures. Her goal was not only to
formulate a healthy option to cover problem skin, but also look completely
natural-- not like you're wearing a mask.
The Natural (or "loose") Mineral Foundation is
formulated with only four ingredients that work together to make your skin look
and feel it's very best. Think about it: no chemicals, no artificial
fragrances, no petroleum dyes, and no fillers---nothing to damage or irritate
your skin. It's so clean and
lightweight, a recent client told us that wearing Youngblood felt better than wearing nothing at all!
Here are a couple of tips to help your skin appear
fresh and more youthful. First, stay away from a matte finish foundation
formula. Instead, you want a formula that will give your skin a natural
radiance (like Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation), and not make skin look
greasy, or glittery like a disco ball.

When choosing the right foundation color for your
skin tone, you want the base to match your skin color perfectly. But if there
are two colors that you are torn between, my suggestion is to pick the shade
that is slightly lighter. If you choose the darker shade it will sometimes make
your skin look "muddy." If you like the
bronzed look, one suggestion is to still choose the lighter shade, but blend in
a bit of loose mineral foundation in Coffee, to add a
natural glow to the skin.
The light-reflecting properties of Youngblood
Natural Mineral Foundation help your skin to look "lifted." Want proof?
Try this: apply Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation to one half of
your face. Step back, and see the clear difference between the two sides of the
face. It's like an "Instant Face Lift!"
Another way you can help your skin look more
defined is by contouring. You'll need a darker powder to use in contouring,
such as "Coffee" Natural Mineral Foundation or "Sunshine" Mineral Radiance. Using
the Super Powder Brush,
apply the darker shadow (after the base is applied). Lightly apply the darker
color underneath the cheek bone, starting from the ear area towards the
nose. Make sure you start softly, so the
color softens when you get to the center.
Remember, you can always start softly and build up, but if you start too
dark, it's harder to soften --but if that happens, you can then apply some of
your mineral base on top, then buff out with a Youngblood flocked sponge, or
just buff out the darker color with the flocked sponge.
The next step in contouring is to shade underneath
the jawbone and the neck. A trick to
make your neck look firmer and thinner would be to shade the outer parts of the
neck leaving the center of the neck bare (the illusion will give you a more
defined neck). Lastly and this one is
optional (depending if you have a normal to longer forehead) you can shade
(ever so lightly) the temples of your forehead. I always suggest to clients
that it is very important that the client buys two different brushes (one for
applying the foundation and one for the contouring). Brushes are key to the
finish of the make up application.

Mature
Eyes
First, apply Youngblood Ultimate Concealer all over
the eyelid with the Youngblood Concealer
Brush. Be careful not to use too much, or it will crease. Then, using the
Youngblood Eye Shadow Brush,
"buff" a single layer of eye shadow onto the lid, starting at the lower lash
line, right up to the crease, but not applying in the crease. By buffing the shadow, you enhance the glow
in the minerals, and this helps eyelids look more youthful and radiant.
If you choose to use eyeliner, try using the
Youngblood Luxurious Definer
Brush. Apply the liner onto the
brush and apply softly along the lash line, then build up, as the liner becomes
darker with each additional stroke. You
can use this technique on both top and bottom lash lines. It is also important to fill in the brows, by
using the Youngblood Brow
ARTISTE brow kits (in your correct shade).
Finish with at least two coats of Youngblood Mascara.
Cheeks
To give a youthful look to your face, try the
"doll" look on your cheeks. Apply Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blush with
the Youngblood Luxurious Powder
Brush, brushing downward on the apples of your cheeks.
Lips.
To get a youthful, full lip, here are some
tips: First, start with a Lip Liner. Try Youngblood Plum and Malt lip liners. (These lighter shades give the illusion of a
fuller lip.) Lightly shade all four
outer corners of the lips, working inward, and fading toward the center of the
lips. Then choose a lip shade in the coral, pink, or soft plum tones. I like to
use Youngblood Coral Beach,
Cuvee, or Pink Quartz lipsticks, using the Youngblood Eye & Lip Brush to fill in
the lips, brushing downward. This gives
fullness to the lips, and by using a brush you apply less and get longer
staying power. To get more pout, apply
Youngblood Lip Gloss or Lip Shine in the center of the
lips. Youngblood Lipsticks
feature a moisturizing formula, which also helps the lips look full and
luscious.
Feel free to share these suggestions with your Mom,
to help ease her concerns about her skin maturing. And remember, if it wasn't for our mothers,
we would never have had makeup to play with when we were kids... Happy Mothers
Day--we love you Mom!
