Faces of Youngblood

Have you ever noticed that when you call Youngblood, a real live person answers your call? No buttons to push, no voice menus -just friendly, helpful people. And if you ever wonder who helps Pauline and Peter keep things running smoothly behind the scenes, then it's time to meet our controller, Mich!

Mich Moret comes to us with over 15 years experience with major brands in the beauty industry. Her passion is immediately apparent. "I love this industry," she says. "It's such a wonderful, exciting group of people!"

As Youngblood's controller, it's her job to monitor the financial aspects of the business-from accounting to warehouse operations-to best meet our customers' needs. But if you ask us, she seems more like head cheerleader. "Youngblood is such a team-spirited environment," she says. "Everyone here pulls together."

As much as she loves her work, her top priority is her family. An ardent fan of the theater and music, this mother of four is very active in her kids' performing arts at California State University. She volunteers as a backstage mom, organizing Red Carpet Galas, complete with limousine service and elegant dinner. (And no, she won't adopt you... we already tried!)

So next time you run into Mich-whether it's at a trade show, or at the theater-be sure to say hello!

Women's History Month

Since March is Women's History Month, we'd like to celebrate the famous faces --and their makeup styles-- that have influenced popular makeup trends over the years. We'll also show you how to duplicate these looks!

The Liquid Eye Liner

One of the signature trends of Hollywood's Golden Era is the liquid eye liner. You can see a very dramatic example of this, as worn by Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra.

Here, the liquid liner was applied to both top and bottom eyelids, and the liner was drawn all the way out to the bottom of the brow line. Also, she had blue eye shadow all over the eyelid, very similar to Youngblood Crushed Mineral Eye Shadow in Azurite.

For a more natural-looking use of liquid eye liner, take a look at Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. For this look, she had a very thin line on top of the lash line, with a soft brown shadow (like Youngblood Crushed Mineral Eye Shadow in Coco, or our Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow Quad in Shanghai Nights) in the crease of her eyelid. She also had very rosy, pouty lips (like Youngblood Lip Liner Pencil in Rose“, with Rosewater Lipstick).

Liquid liner

Both of t
hese examples also featured very full lashes. You can duplicate this look by using Youngblood Mascara in Onyx; coat the lashes two or three times to increase fullness.

Another Hollywood trendsetter in
the use of liquid eye liner was Marilyn Monroe. She used a thick, black liquid liner on her lash line.
Her look was also defined by full lashes, arched brows, brown eye shadow in the crease, red lip liner and lipstick, and of course her signature beauty mark.

Smoldering Eyes

A trend favored by many of today's glamour icons is the smoky, smoldering eye shadow.

Oprah Winfrey is a flawless example of this look. Her eye shadow is blended, with no sign of where one color ends and the other starts. For this effect, try using the Gemstone Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow Quad, and Raven Crushed Mineral Eye Shadow (for some punch), applied with the Youngblood Eye Shadow Brush. Oprah's skin is polished and smooth, which you can achieve by using Youngblood Mineral Rice Setting Powder before you apply our loose or Liquid Foundation. Her lips look flesh tone and glossy (try Youngblood Lipstick in Barely Nude or Honey Nut, topped with Ice Blush Lip Shine, applied with the Travel Lip Brush).

Tyra Banks also favors the smoky-eyed look, but she is a little more daring when it comes to color choices. Her makeup artist loves to play it up, and he also uses great brushes to help blend colors perfectly on her eyelids. Try applying Youngblood Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow Quad in Purple Majesty, or even Youngblood blushes onto your eyelids. Tyra also wears an apricot blush (try Youngblood Sherbet Crushed Mineral Blush) and soft nude lips (try Youngblood Malt Lip Liner with Praline Lip Gloss).

Other trend-setting women that sport the dramatic sultry eye are Ashlee Simpson, Vanessa Williams, Rene Russo, Keira Knightly, Katharine McPhee, Beyonce Knowles, Nicole Richie, Hillary Duff, Carmen Electra, and Jennifer Lopez.

The Fresh Face

Another timeless, classic look is the fresh face. A great example is Jackie Kennedy Onassis, who had gorgeous skin, and never let her makeup upstage her. She would wear very soft liner and soft mascara (using Sable Youngblood Mascara will give you the same look). She switched it up when it came to lipstick colors-- soft and natural for daytime (like Youngblood Pink Quartz or Sheer Passion), and for evening events she liked to pump it up (try Youngblood Lipstick in Vivid, or Lip Shine in Jubilee). Whatever the occasion, Jackie O was always the timeless beauty, and we can all take pointers from our late first lady.

Let's not forget another classic, fresh-faced beauty, Judy Garland. Even in black and white, this beautiful actress gave a fresh, natural finish to the big screen. She had long full lashes (try using a couple coats of Youngblood
Mascara) and perfect polished brows (try Youngblood Brow Artiste kits in the perfect shade for your hair color). The natural look can be convenient; you can just apply mascara, brow kit, a little lip shine, and be out the door!

Some other natural beauties are Oscar-winners Halle Berry and Jennifer Hudson, kick-butt actresses Kate Beckinsale and Angelina Jolie, and sweethearts Kristin Davis, Kate Bosworth, Ashley Judd, and Jessica Alba. Even superstar Madonna has kept her look simple since she became a mother.

Red Carpet Lips

Another trend that can stop someone in their tracks is the red lip. Lucille Ball's signature look was the liquid liner and full, red lips. Christina Aguilera brought the timeless look of hot red lips back when she launched her most recent album. Actress Rachael McAdams wore a softer red lip in the movie The Notebook, and Anne Hathaway made the red carpet lip irresistible in The Devil Wears Prada.

There are a couple of pointers to achieving the classic red lip. First, make sure you keep your eye shadow tones soft and natural (such as Youngblood Crushed Mineral Eye Shadow in Granite or Coco, or Youngblood Eternity or Timeless Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow Quads). With a small brush, apply a little concealer around the edge of your lips, so your lipstick won't bleed. (Youngblood Ultimate Concealer and a Youngblood Travel Lip Brush or Luxurious Lip Brush will work great). Also, don't forget lip liner, because it keeps the lipstick long-wearing. And for brilliant lip color, try Youngblood lipstick in Mystere or Kranberry.

As you can see, these timeless, classic looks can be achieved with Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, just by using some helpful tips and good brushes. Now have fun--and thanks for helping us salute the great women of beauty during Women's History Month!
